Context
Música Seis is a music book for 6th grade by
Santillana Editores, a spanish school books editor.
Within the scope of the project
"Musica Seis - 6th grade Musical Education", Santillana
approached our team with the aim of developing a
web application capable of running on mobile, in support of
their school manual.
The App
The application, accessible to students and teachers, aims to
increase the students' involvement with the Music Education
discipline, promoting learning and musical interpretation through
the use of computer and digital devices.
Thus, the mobile application is divided into three parts: simulator
of musical instruments, musical karaoke (with scores and different
instruments) and a simple beat machine.
The App Música Seis is a react based app designed to help
students and teachers with the music learning process.

All graphics present in the application were created and developed by our team for this sole purpose. We follow the graphic line and colors of the school manual "Música Seis".
This app is meant for kids, so they must feel like they're
playing some sort of a game.
We used vivid colors to bring life and fun to the app.
Also, the contrast allows a fast tracking of elements.
So everything's really easy in this app.

The simulator is composed by some of the orff orchestra
instruments.
They are the piano, xylophone, set of bells, triangle,
tambourine, maracas, reco-reco, clubs and timbale.
On the desktop, interact with the instruments using the
mouse or using the keyboard. The speed provided by a
computer offers a real playing feeling.
In some instruments one can play using device's sensors.
For example, in the case of 'maracas',sound is also produced
when shaking the smartphone, not quite 'just like a maraca'
because acelerometers and diferent processing speeds make
the quest impossible, but the effect is quite interesting
and fun.
Easy to use easy to learn music
Karaoke is divided by levels, according to the manual "Music
Six".
In each song, you can see the different instruments that
make it up, each of which has a track with the corresponding
score.
The set of controls available to the user allows you to use
karaoke easily and intuitively.
Primarily play, pause, stop, forward and rewind. But not
only. You may increase and decrease the volume and the as
well as speed reading.
This way, learning is at the users pace. The interface also
allows the user to turn on or off each track so one can only
hear and focus on one or more instruments.
In addition, you can view which segment of the song you are
in and choose which phase you want.
It's a simple beat machine
The 'Caixa de Ritmos' app is a sequenciator. It uses the
same Orff instruments as before, and allows kids to create
rithms.
This simple app aims to help students understand time, sound
and silence, and use them to create some interesting
thoughts.
Different displays
The design evolved a lot during the process.
Some communication issues arose and had to be solved along
the way.
We had very little time to imagine, design and build this
app.
And still a whole lot of things we would have done
differently if we could.
