As part of Portugal Multimedia team, I was to lead the project of
building Garrett's new website.
There were three main challenges:
First we had to comply with Garrett's Marketing design guide lines.
Second, the size of website. It's quite big and ever growing one.
Third and biggest challenge was the variety of information the
website presents, from products to projects, portfolios and
different contact forms with different purposes.
It was a big challenge, but it went really well and I've been asked
to re-design it, for the sake of communication dynamics.

The website looks
Garrett's head of Marketing Nuno Vinhas, told us there were two key words to describe their pretended look and feel, elegant and robust.
Mobile access was a paramount issue for Garrett. Most of
Garrett clients are professionals who are on the go and most
of the website's access are from mobile.
A mobile first approach was a
'sine quo non' condition.
Garrett's projects are part of building projects, better
known as 'Technical Specs' of construction. We wanted
clients to feel at home so we included a 'before/after'
interaction in some images. The 'before' was the design
project, and the after was a picture after done.
Architects and engineers could have a grasp of what Garrett
activity was all about. It was their game.

The website was to get a whole lot of content. That content
was to be produced and inserted by Garrett's Marketing.
We used Wordpress as a CMS as it would allow their staff to
insert content with ease.
How to efficiently communicate Multimedia Integration Projects
Garrett wanted to improove the sales on Multimedia
Integration projects (like domotics on steroids). The
greatest problem was the amount of text needed to explain
the products and service specs.
We have used video for a number of other communication and
we wanted something new with a more 'techy' approach but
without the jargon.
Our goal was to able a 10 year old interact with a building.
So we came up with an idea. A GUI to simulate the usage of
domotics in 3D. It would be based on 'Gamification' without
gratification achievements. It would look very nice and
simple, and would keep users 'playing' with it. At the same
time it would fight back the bounce rate hurting the website
ranking. We used Blender and Blend4web (a great technology
used by NASA as well).
